After an intensive and rich Spring semester, which started with a discussion on the new, but very significant and forward looking EU Education policy, the European Commission adopted the initiative of the Digital Action plan. This was followed by the preparation of EDEN actions and contribution suggestions towards its implementation
The Values and Flexibility for Recognition of Innovative, Open and Digital Education in Europe
September came with a promise of an Autumn rush for EDEN, but none of us could anticipate the richness of blended virtual and physical events that EDEN community enjoyed through the semester.
At first glance, the speed of developments in Europe is overwhelming. Pre-existing conditions created in education established immense possibilities for innovations on the continent. Very complex and concise solutions are already in place. If we think about Open Education, we have a variety of forms on offer (MOOCs, OER, open online learning, virtual mobility, remote experiments and science education, to name a few), as well as regulations facilitating collaboration of education providers on all levels of education (Bologna process, credit transfer, prior and non-formal learning recognition).
One of the major strength of EDEN is the Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP), leading the association through academic practice exchange, networking and providing a higly effective meeting and communication forum. Despite of the functional autonomy, NAP has Steering Committee who was chaired by Steve Wheeler in recent years. It was my great pleasure to get to know Steve when I was a NAP member, #EDENChat follower, when I was learning with “e”s through his blog, when I followed his activities as EDEN EC member and when I read his concerns and considertions about education and e-learning since then until now, when Steve Wheeler completes his mission in EDEN board.
It is not possible to list all his contributions made to EDEN as an organization, but it is great pleasure and honour to have his post in EDEN Presidency post before he leaves. While you will enjoy the reading, I would like to invite Steve to continue collaboration with us, in the open and very professional way, as he always does.
