SESSION G5 - EU eLearning Conference 2006 Workshop

Technology Enhanced Learning - Catalyst for Change and Innovation

The workshop gives an insight into the preparations of the forthcoming EU eLearning Conference organised by the European Commission DG Education and Culture, DG Information Society and Media, in collaboration with the Lifelong Learning Institute Dipoli at Helsinki University of Technology and the Ministry of Education, Finland. Against the background of the refocused Lisbon strategy the conference will examine questions such as how new technologies can effectively support innovations in education and training, promote desirable change and support lifelong learning for all. The conference will take a look at the current situation and outline desirable future developments.

This year will also be the final year for various EU education programmes, such as Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci and eLearning. Several important parts of the eLearning programme will find continuation in the new Lifelong Learning Programme (2007-2013). The conference will mark the shift from a separate eLearning programme to a more integrated approach of ICT supported lifelong learning.

Presentations on the findings and results of the working groups on these topics within the REVE project will be used as a starting point for discussion. Among other things we will debate questions such as how to define the workload of a course, and the amount and type of credit a course gets, how to exchange credits among institutions, what kind of agreements can be made between universities, IPR issues in joint curriculum development, multilingual approaches, intercultural communication.
