The Open University, UK presents two of the modules for the postgraduate Masters in Online and Distance Learning with the OU this autumn. These modules are:

  • Accessible online learning: supporting disabled students (Registration closes 21 August 2015)

Accessible online learning: supporting disabled students (H810)

This online 15 ECTS credit module starts on 5 September 2015, and is concerned with improving access to learning for disabled students. There are increasing expectations in many countries that disabled students should be able to participate fully in post-16 education. This means that people responsible for provision in academic and support roles need to be aware of the impact of this on how courses are designed and delivered online. The module looks at the experiences of disabled students, the technical aspects of accessibility, and current debates and discussions about disability and accessibility in educational contexts. The networked practitioner (H818)

This is also a 15 ECTS credit online module and starts on 3 October 2015. Sharing knowledge and practice is transformed through online dissemination and informed through engagement with others in peer reflection. Increasingly students and educators utilise social media and open content as peripheral activities. This module shifts this practice from what Lawrence Lessig described as ‘read-only’ engagement, into active and purposeful networked ‘read-write’ activity. Working on a project, you will publish and share practice within an online Conference and our ‘OpenStudio’, producing an artefact which explores and addresses a key theme in online and distance education. You will also critically assess and actively visualise your own engagement with online networks and open practice. Registration closes 18 September 2015. Full details here.
