What Makes the Impact?

Great news: near 200 proposals have been submitted for the Valencia Annual Conference, including several workshops and demonstrations. The evaluation is in progress, all authors will be informed about the result in these days.

Registration

The EDEN Secretariat is taking care of the registration for the Conference. EDEN is offering the possibility of becoming member AND participating at the Valencia Annual Conference at a combined reduced fee. Please, consult the registration information to learn about the details.

The Conference City: Valencia

Valencia is the third largest city in Spain, containing a dense monumental heritage but its landmark is undoubtedly the City of Arts and Sciences an avant-garde and futuristic museum complex. Valencia has plenty of sights from over 2000 years of history, active cultural life, excellent local and international gastronomy (paella!), unique nightlife, good beaches, preserved traditional culture, offering all this with well-developed tourist infrastructure, in a friendly environment.

The Conference will be hosted by Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (UPV), flagship innovative University in this dynamic region, offering highly valued modern, flexible degrees for the local industry as well as internationally.

As EURODL has a rolling issue, all submitted articles passing the peer reviews get published instantly.

4. Self-Evaluation of Quality in E-learning in Higher Education and Vocational Training

The SEVAQ+ wiki portal is now publicly available. SEVAQ is a self-evaluation tool of quality in e-learning in Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training. The tool offers the users both a core of questions and customised evaluation possibilities. Evaluation results are available in real time and in a variety of forms, from radar graphs giving an instant picture to raw data for importing into other applications. The enhanced self-evaluation tool and concept, extended to new stakeholder groups and localised in 3 additional languages (DE, IT and PL) with a focus on interculturality, will soon be available. At the EDEN Valencia Conference the project will deliver a workshop. A special stakeholder reception will also be organised in Valencia (details will be communicated soon)

5. Eliminating Language Barriers in Prisons Through E-learning

The ELBEP project was recently presented at the European Conference on Prison Education. The idea was to empower prison staff through their second language education via an e-Learning environment (developed in second language portals) to promote social cohesion as regards both rehabilitation and lives after release. The partners developed and ran e-courses, e-exercises audiovisual materials glossary and alphabet with manuals & virtual class environment. 6. News from European Interest Group on Creativity and Innovation (EICI)

The future EU2020 Strategy:

EU 2020 is aimed at enabling Europe to move toward 2020, which focuses on crisis recovery, a knowledge economy and a competitive, sustainable economy.

The EC has released a preliminary summary of the results of the public consultation on the Europe 2020 strategy. More than 1500 responses have been collected. The research sector has emphasised the need to build on Europe's research/knowledge infrastructure while increasing efforts to attract/retain top scientific talents. Regional and local authorities have expressed their interest in playing a greater role in the establishment of innovation policies.

7. Media & Learning Conference in Brussels 25-26 November 2010

The Media & Learning Brussels 2010 Conference is being organised in collaboration with the Flemish Ministry of Education and the European Commission Directorate-General for Education and Culture and will coincide with the Belgian Presidency of the European Union.

The conference will focus on three key themes; digital and media skills and competences, fostering the creation of media-based resources at all levels of education and training and use and re-use of existing media resources in education and training. The call is open to submit proposals (closing date 1 June 2010). More information is available from the conference website at: http://www.media-and-learning.eu

USDLA - 2010 International Forum for Women in E-Learning (IFWE)

December 1-3, 2010
Albuquerque, New Mexico

IFWE events allow attendees, at all stages of their careers, to discuss their ideas with experienced women leaders in distance learning from corporate, government, education, and consulting fields. The program includes keynote and panel discussions, poster and concurrent informational sessions, and networking/mentoring activities particularly relevant to women.

Universitat Oberta de Catalunya

The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) eLearn Center is offering Research Fellowship positions for outstanding researchers from around the world to spend time at the center in Barcelona to work on their research interests in e-learning and interact with the eLC’s researchers and doctoral students.

NETSOUNDS Project First European Seminar

The NETSOUNDS project invites to its First European Seminar with the title of "How can music change the world?". The project aims at promoting music education through new technologies and social networking based tools. The event will take place on the 31st of April, in Brussels, in the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union.
