4. News from the Executive Committee The EDEN Executive Committee held its meeting on 7 February in Leuven. It was a great opportunity to prepare for the 2012 Research Workshop that will be held at the University of Leuven in October. The workshop – on which details will be announced soon – will be hosted in an exceptional historic setting at the medieval heart of the University. The EC has noted the withdrawal of its member, Professor Gilly Salmon who worked for most of 2011 in Australia and recently occupied a senior position at the Swinburne University. EDEN will maintain close relations with Gilly and wishes her continuing success in the future. A new EC member will be elected at the Annual General Meeting in Porto in June.

Asha Kanwar President of the Commonwealth of Learning Professor Asha Kanwar, one of the world's leading advocates of learning for development and current Vice President of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the international organisation. She succeeds Sir John Daniel, whose term as COL's President ends on 31 May. Call for Papers for eLearning Papers: Cyber Security and Education eLearning Papers seeks contributions about Cyber Security for young people and the educational sector in two sections: In-Depth and From the Field. Designing Video and Multimedia for Open and Flexible Learning by EDEN Fellow Jack Koumi A comprehensive, practical, illustrated guide to the effective use of video and multimedia in open and distance learning, including pedagogic design principles has been published. News from ELIG - European Learning Industry Group ELIG announces the availability of their two most recent publications: White Paper: Open Education: a wake-up call for the learning industry? and A snapshot of the Learning Industry in Europe for 2011. The White Paper presents evidence that OE is growing quickly even though few industry members are currently supporting it. The Snapshot is a summary produced to provide an industry structure, segmentation and analysis that helps industry members build more effective strategies.
