Resources available: Learn more about Learning Analytics

The LACE - Learning Analytics Community Exchange project continues to work on discussing important aspects of learning analytics and educational data mining as well as to promote this field of educational research through a series of introductory documents. We have launched the Learning Analytic Review Paper initiative with its first paper on Measuring and Understanding Learner Emotions and the partnership has started a set of FAQs about the concept, benefits and challenges of learning analytics. Let us also raise your attention to other valuable LACE resources concerning quality indicators, validity, openness and STEM-specific learning innovations.

Digital skills for teachers: DigiSkills good practices on video

Three short videos were shot at the last European DigiSkills Workshop during the 2014 EDEN Annual Conference in Zagreb to introduce good practices by their representatives. As one of the outcomes of the discussions was that video explanations of these practices support the use and reuse of experiences, those who were happy to share their practices explained them on camera.

New Initiatives

Open Badges for all! - Badge Europe (BEU)

BEU - Badge Europe aims to provide a response to the concerns of the European Adult Education Association to the risks of deterring adults from informal learning if the formal recognition of informal learning was to take over. The project will provide a simple, yet revolutionary, technology supporting a number of processes related to the recognition of formal, non-formal and informal learning. The specific aims and objectives of BEU are:

  • to promote the idea of “Open Badges for all!” in Europe, part of “Badge the World”, using Mozilla Open Badges to enable the worldwide recognition of in-demand workplace skills and create new employment opportunities for all
  • to create the conditions for the Europe-wide and world-wide recognition of learning achievements; and
  • to place formal and informal recognition of learning on a par

Meet with BEU on 10 June 2015 in Barcelona, at a full day dedicated event in conjuction with the ePic Conference and the EDEN Annual Conference.

Digital resources as a new strategical factor for a renovation of modernization in higher education (D-TRANSFORM)

This Strategic Partnership project aims to be a contribution to the modernisation of Europe’s higher education systems as outlined in the 2011 EU Modernisation agenda. Among key targets outlined by the Commission, D-TRANSFORM takes into account the need for: 1. improving the quality and relevance of higher education (HE) through new technologies and more flexible and personalized teaching and 2. increasing investment in HE, through more diversified and flexible funding sources (drawing, to a larger extent, on private funding).

The goal is to implement a training program for leaders of European universities (presidents, vice-presidents) focusing on the major role played by digital technologies (MOOCS, etc.) and Open Educational Resources (OER) in the necessary transformation of their institutions.

Meet with D-TRANSFORM in Barcelona in June 2015, at the EDEN Annual Conference. To kick off and stimulate the brainstorming, a panel of senior University leaders will be questioned in a provoking way about their needs of being advised on strategic issues of modernisation.

Open Professional Collaboration for Innovation (OpenPROF)

OpenPROF addresses key innovations in the training of teachers, trainers and adult educators: using the open educational resources; developing and licensing open curriculum; using open collaboration environments; designing curriculum for diverse target groups including the mode of work-based learning.

The recently launched initiative aims to foster open and international professional collaboration for innovation by training them to openly collaborate in the development of on-line innovative curriculum design using open educational resources.
