The first D4Learning Conference is an international conference, organised by the D4Learning Research group (Aalborg University) in collaboration with EDEN, within the Open Classroom Conference series. The event will focus on distance education and new technologies in school level education and training.

Interview with EDEN Executive Committee member Fabio Nascimbeni

UNIR researcher, Fabio Nascimbeni, renewed as a member of EDEN Executive Board. The announcement marks the international consolidation of UNIR as a member of one of the most important institutions on e-learning Worldwide. Fabio Nascimbeni, researcher belonging to the Telsock Research Group (UNIR Research; http://research.unir.net), highlighted the relevance of that milestone for the institution. The twenty fourth Annual General Meeting of EDEN was held on 10 June 2015 at the venue of the EDEN Annual Conference in Barcelona. Minutes are available (for signed in members) for download in the NAP Members Area.

The Teaching Profession in Europe: Practices, Perceptions, and Policies

This Eurydice report analyses the relation between the policies that regulate the teaching profession in Europe, and the attitudes, practices, and perceptions of teachers. It focuses on almost two million lower secondary education teachers employed in the 28 EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey. Adult Education and Open Educational Resources

This study reviews the current use of Open Educational Resources in Adult Education, assesses its potential and makes recommendations for policy interventions, taking account of the European Commission’s policy frameworks. It incorporates new research on over 12 Member States, leveraging on a synthesis of existing research from a range of projects including POERUP (Policies for OER Uptake) and a study on Shared OER for the Joint Research Centre, augmented by two more recent studies for JRC and LLP. DigiSkills Good Practices: Time to tell your opinion!

Good practices are available for the enhancement of educators' digital skills on various levels. The DigiSkills project is finishing now and we invite you to dedicate 10 minutes of your time to give us feedback on the portal's good practices through this short online evaluation form. This will help us to further develop this online tool.

The Digiskills project was co-organising the Open Classroom Conference in Athens (#OCCAthens) in September. The evaluation form and more information on the event resources are available in its latest online Newsletter.

OPENProf Trainings and Events for OERs

The OPENProf partnership has finished three online and freely available trainings that will help OER developers to create their own educational material.

Furthermore, the Open Professional Collaboration for Innovation Conference includes an OPENProf event where the partners share lessons learnt and methodology for OERs. Information about this event and tools to create your own OER practice are available in the recently released OPENProf Newsletter.

Training Action Booklet is available to help children with medical needs

The LeHo (Learning at Home and in the Hospital) project is successfully collecting and sharing good practices which include innovative technologies and methodologies in order to support the education of children with medical needs. Seminar: TALOE webtool on e-assessment strategies for online courses

TALOE project will hold its final seminar on 17th November 2015, in Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles). Learn and experiment the webtool to propose assessment methods related with type of learning outcomes/competences.

Visions of the Future of Learning Analytics

The Learning Analytics Community Exchange - LACE project has launched a survey to collect views on eight visions of the future of learning analytics. Exploring the trends underlying the growth of learning analytics, and ideas on how the field will develop is part of a policy Delphi. You are very welcome to participate if you are curious about these visions, and would like to add your views to the policy Delphi. . 10 years down the road, the platform has grown, and is representing 39 NGOs Europe-wide, in constant dialogue with local, national and European institutions, to ensure lifelong learning becomes a reality for all. On 22 September, EUCIS-LLL gathered in an exceptional General Assembly and voted in favour of a new identity, coinciding with its 10th Anniversary and became the Lifeling Learning Platform.

Innovative tools in education to bridge the skills gap in industry

On 6 October, the Lifelong Learning Platform was invited to participate in a discussion organised by ETRMA on the topic of "Innovative education tools to bridge the skills gap in the rubber industry". Andras Szucs, EDEN Secretary General, LLL Platform Vice-President, said in his presentation: "Digital learning changes fast, its speed and performance are increasing while it becomes less and less expensive so more people can access learning through digital means. The question is how can traditional education and training adapt and integrate digital learning.".

Innovative learning namely via digital learning will be one of the hot topics in the upcoming LLL Week (30.11-04.12.2015).

 

From EUA: Horizon 2020: simplification never ends

Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research and Innovation and the leadership team of his Directorate General gathered to listen to the views of key stakeholders on the simplification of Horizon 2020 on Friday, 25 September 2015.

From ICDE: Introducing the leadership of ICDE from January 2016

The International Council for Open and Distance Education presented the result of the election for the ICDE Executive Committee. Prof. Asha Singh Kanwar and EDEN Executive Member, Prof. Belinda Tynan have been elected to join the ICDE Executive Committee as institutional representatives. Prof. Alan Tait, former EDEN President, who is currently an institutional representative of the ICDE Executive Committee, was elected by the individual members to be the individual representative. They will join Prof. Mandla S. Makhanya, Dr. Yang Zhijian and Mr. Maxim Jean-Louis as the Executive Committee of ICDE from January 2016. Read more...
