PhD Student Symposium- Grants from the Ulrich Bernath Foundation available A PhD Student Symposium will take place on 24 October 2018 as part of the Research Workshop. The Symposium has been designed to provide discussion forum and foster the exchange of experience among doctoral research students. Senior researchers of the conference themes will help young scholars with reflections and advice. PhD Student Symposium participant candidates should submit their abstract using this form. For further information, please visit the EDEN Research Workshop website. The Ulrich Bernath Foundation for Research in Open and Distance Learning will support FIVE young scholars or teams of young scholars with a grant of 600 Euros for successfully submitting a conference paper to be presented at the EDEN Research Workshop in Barcelona in October 2018. |

IEEE TALE 2018: Educational Technology/E-Learning and STEM Education Conference, AustraliaTALE is the IEEE Education Society's flagship Asia-Pacific conference, catering to researchers and practitioners with an interest in engineering/technology education and educational technology. TALE 2018 will be held in Wollongong, on the spectacular South Coast of New South Wales, Australia, close to Sydney. The theme of the conference is "Engineering Next-Generation Learning”. Call for speakers - education workshop at European Semester seminarAs part of its strategic dialogue with civil society under the European Semester DG EMPL is organising a consultation with civil society in Brussels on 2 October. This seminar will feature a breakout session on education, training and lifelong learning with a focus on inclusion of disadvantaged groups. For this session they are looking for 3-5 speakers to provide civil society's views on the education dimension of their national Country Report. They would like speakers from the following countries: AT, BG, DE, ES, MT, PT, RO. Nominations are welcome by email until 26 July. Please note that an invitation is not guaranteed as the Commission will decide itself on a case-by-case basis. The UOC-coordinated Skill Up Project holds its Multiplier Event in StockholmOn 20 September 2018 Skill Up Project partners would like to welcome you to share their experiences and project results, but specifically also to discuss on new methods and tools to support transitions from higher education to work, authentic learning approaches in Higher Education and e-counselling among different topics of interest. The event will build on a keynote speech and some parallel sessions devoted to a more specific topic on learning scenarios and how to support graduates in making successful transitions from education to the labour market. The UOC publishes a research about Dropout in Online Higher EducationOne of online distance learning’s positive attributes is its flexibility. However, the possibility of engaging in periods of non-enrollment (breaks) usually ends in students dropping out. In this paper, the intention to continue of those students who have not enrolled in the second semester is analyzed, adopting a long-term program perspective. |

Alejandro Ferrer, Rector of UNED has been appointed as Secretary of State in Spanish GovernmentEADTU President Alejandro Tiana Ferrer has been invitated to join the Ministry of Education in Spain, as Secretary of State for Education and Vocational Training. He has accepted this new position and left the position as rector of UNED. EDEN congratulates Professor Alejandro Tiana Ferrer with this important change in his career and wish him great success in the new position. |

Highered Student Survey InsightsHighered EFMD Global Career Services continues to offer an additional EFMD full member benefit, providing a platform designed to support existing EFMD school career service initiatives with international job placement opportunities. In June, to further support and understand the global student perspective, Highered recently conducted a survey where students responded globally to questions regarding their job search. The survey results allow us to evaluate the types of positions, companies, and sectors that are most attractive to EFMD students providing relevant work opportunities, complementing individual school career services and strengthening company global recruitment strategies.
