Building on its success of the research workshops, EDEN is pleased to announce its Tenth Research Workshop organised in collaboration with the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona, Spain, to be held in Barcelona on 24-26 October 2018.
The Workshop Themes revolve around the topics of personalized learning, teachers' and learners' roles, open education, adaptive teaching, formative assessment and teacher-learner dialogue.


The registration fee includes access to conference facilities, the electronic Conference Proceedings, the Welcome Cocktail, lunches and refreshments during the conference days, not including accommodation and the conference dinner.

Authors of contributions accepted for presentation can benefit from a reduced fee. For young scholars discount will be applied.

Welcome Reception

The Welcome Reception will be held in the UOC main building, a few steps walk from the Cosmocaixa Museum, where the Research Workshop will take place. It offers an informal setting to meet and chat with your fellow conference delegates while enjoying a delicious evening snack.

Conference Dinner

Come and explore a dinner inside Barcelona’s largest Gothic palace: Palau Requesens with a short guided tour of the building. Enjoy authentic medieval Catalan cuisine.

Keynote speakers

- Neil Selwyn

Neil Selwyn is a professor in the Faculty of Education, Monash University. His research and teaching focuses on the place of digital media in everyday life, and the sociology of technology (non)use in educational settings.

- Sanna Järvelä

Sanna Järvelä, PhD, is a professor in the field of learning and educational technology and a head of the Learning and Educational Technology Research Unit (LET) in the Department of Educational Sciences, University of Oulu. Her main research interest deal with learning processes in technology-enhanced learning, self-regulated learning and computer supported collaborative learning.


PhD Student Symposium- Grants from the Ulrich Bernath Foundation available!

A PhD Student Symposium will take place on 24 October 2018. The event has been designed to provide discussion forum and foster the exchange of experience among doctoral research students. Senior researchers of the conference themes will help young scholars with reflections and advice.

The Ulrich Bernath Foundation for Research in Open and Distance Learning will support FIVE young scholars or teams of young scholars with a grant of 600 Euros for successfully submitting a conference paper to be presented at the EDEN Research Workshop in Barcelona in October 2018.

Farewell Ingeborg Bø

Ingeborg Bo, President of EDEN, 2003 – 2007, Chair of the Norwegian Association for Distance and Flexible Education, Norway passed away in August.

The EDEN Family, established by Ingeborg, the Fellows and Community will always remember her as the most charming and irretrievable President, our friend, who dedicated many years and efforts to make EDEN a strong and successful organization.

Special Issue for The European Journal of Open, Distance and E-learning: “Innovations for the Future with Digital Learning for Inclusion”

The former Chief Editor of EURODL, Professor Emeritus Alan Tait (The Open University, UK), and Professor Elsebeth Korsgaard Sorensen, Deputy Director of XLab (Aalborg University, DK), guest editors for a special journal issue in the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning (EURODL) invite you to submit a paper for this Special Issue:

"Innovations for the Future with Digital Learning for Inclusion”.

The Special Issue should address the notion of innovations and creativity with digital learning for inclusion of lifelong learners (including any segment of the population). Papers may be approached in a variety of perspectives/foci: new educational environments; learning designs for including education; affordances of digital tools for including education; creative ways of utilizing open educational technologies for inclusion of various segments of the population (e.g. pre-school children, elderly people, disadvantaged people, etc.); best practices; case studies on innovative technology-based learning strategies/pedagogies; upcoming trends; etc.

Workshop on the Learning Passport developed in the OEPass project

Get involved in the latest international projects of EDEN!

OEPass deals with the topic of micro-credentials, the most timely and relevant concept in higher education and adult learning. Don’t miss the opportunity to be updated in this important topic by experts in the field!

You are kindly invited to participate in this 2 x 90 minutes workshop introducing the concept and use of the Learning Passport, the initiative of the Open Education Passport (OEPass) project.

The workshop will explain how the Learning Passport facilitates the recognition of open education credentials in Europe. The workshop embedded in the 10th EDEN Research Workshop will take place on 25 October 2018.
