One of the greatest thinkers in the field of education, Sir Ken Robinson, will be keynote speaker at the EDEN Conference 2013, 14 June, in Oslo. The Conference day theme is "Disruptive Education".

Sir Ken Robinson, PhD, is an internationally recognized leader in the development of education,creativity and innovation. He is also one of the world’s leading speakers with a profound impact on audiences everywhere. An estimated 200 million people in over 150 countries have seen the videos from his famous TED talks. Sir Ken will talk about "The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything".

Community Update

Sugata Mitra Interviewed by Steve Wheeler

The media and education worlds have been buzzing over the last few days about the work of a quiet, unassuming Indian born professor. Born in Calcutta in 1952, Sugata Mitra started his academic career in computational and molecular science. Prof Mitra agreed to give an exclusive interview to EDEN NAP Steering Committee member Steve Wheeler before the 2013 Annual Conference.

European Commission's Corner

European Commission has launched Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs

The European Commission has called on Europe's digital businesses, governments, training and education sectors to join a Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs to address up to 900 000 job vacancies expected to exist in Europe in Information and Communication technologies (ICT) by 2015. Despite the current levels of unemployment, the number of digital jobs is growing by more than 100 000 per year and the number of fresh ICT graduates and skilled ICT workers is not keeping up. Funding of Education in Europe 2000-2012: The Impact of the Economic Crisis

Investment in education fell in eight out of 25 Member States assessed as part of a Eurydice study on the impact of the crisis on education budgets since 2010. Cuts of more than 5 % were imposed in Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania and Portugal, while Estonia, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom (Scotland) saw decreases of 1 to 5 %. However, five Member States increased education spending by more than 1 %: Austria, Denmark, Luxembourg, Malta and Sweden, as well as the German-speaking Community of Belgium. Germany and the Netherlands did not provide data for the period since 2010

Postdoc Vacancy at JRS-IS for ICT for Learning, Skills and OERs

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre Information Society (IS) Unit has a vacancy for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the Action called "Socioeconomic Analysis of ICT for Learning and Inclusion", in particular in the area of "ICT for Learning, Skills and Open Educational Resources (OER)".

Online Educa Berlin 2013 - Call for proposals

The 19th ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN will take place from December 4 to 6, 2013.

With a particular emphasis on how Learning Moves, ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN 2013 will focus on change and the role of technology in promoting creativity and innovation.

Aalto University: Fresh ideas come together in Open Innovation House

The Aalto University main campus in Otaniemi, Espoo celebrated its most recent new building with the grand opening of Open Innovation House in March 2013. The opening gave demonstrations to the public of the innovations produced by organisations working in the house.

Open Innovation House functions as a base and meeting venue for open innovation and collaborative creation. The purpose of the building is to promote the natural coming together of people and ideas and to create new collaborative and operating models. Read more...


Ready for a SMARTer World? New edition of Open Thoughts blog from UOC

How can technology help find solutions to the challenges of today's world? Are we prepared to handle the large amount of data that surround us? To coincide with the Mobile World Congress 2013, the UOC launches a debate on whether we are prepared to make smarter use of technology.
