EDEN Synergy Workshop
19-21 October 2013, Budapest University of Technology and Economics

Transnational Learning Forum

for Exchanging Practices and Ideas



The workshop. hosted by EDEN, is the result of the collaboration of 4 European Projects: eLene2learn, DigiSkills, POERUP and Open Discovery Space.

The Workshop is targeting stakeholders representing higher education and (secondary) school level education in the following themes: (i) ICT and digital media use; (ii) Developing and improving learning to learn competences; (iii) Learner support (with the use of ICT); (iv) Open Educational Resources and their use in education; (v) ICT enhanced language teaching and learning; (vi) Teacher training (communities of practice).

The Synergy Workshop, as its title suggests, will be focusing on

  • the identification of basic points of synergy (meaning overlapping areas of activity and targeted goals and objectives) amongst a broad palette of presenting initiatives (including EU funded projects and national or institutional cases/practices)
  • and the elaboration of future collaboration plans based on these points.

Registration to the event is free of charge.

News from ICDE

Heads of EDEN Member Institutions: ICDE Standing Conference of Presidents (SCOP) - Registration open

EDEN is joining ICDE - International Council for Distance Education and Universidade Aberta, the open university of Portugal, in organising the 20th Standing Conference of Presidents and Policy Forum in Lisbon, Portugal, 27-30 November.

The Forum will address the most challenging and pressing discussion about "Leadership for Change in a Time of Openness". Invitees of the event are Rectors and Presidents of higher education institutions engaged in open, distance and flexible learning.

SCOP 2013 will provide opportunity to review the role of the institutional management in the fast-changing higher education environment.
The meeting will discuss sustainable visions, innovative strategies and creative business models to meet the challenges.

EDEN will contribute to the programme with the “ICDE-EDEN Fellows Panel Discussion on Leadership for Change”, and also propose projects for introduction in the "Hands-on Innovative Leadership Workshop in open, distance and online education".


25th ICDE World Conference on Open and Distance Learning
16-18 October 2013, Tianjin, China

The 25th ICDE World Conference on Open and Distance Learning to be held in Tianjin, China from 16-18 October 2013 has a programme based around the theme of New Strategies for Global Open, Flexible and Distance Learning. The conference offers an impressive list of keynote speakers and two plenary panel discussions will be held - on open educational resources and study support - with expert discussants representing a variety of perspectives. 4th eLene2learn newsletter

Towards the end of the second year of the project activities there are strong evidences to prove the excellence of eLene2learn. Its lively multi-stakeholder community of teachers, pupils, students, researchers and decision makers continues to grow and expand, unchangingly focusing on the contribution of ICT and digital media in supporting the development of learning to learn competencies in lifelong learning transitions. The third eLene2learn webinar (on Blogs and ePortfolios), organised by the University of Bremen, will be held this Friday, the 20th of September at 10:00 am CET. Results of the 2nd VISIR Consultation

"Reacting to change and transforming European Lifelong Learning: the contribution of ICT in addressing key concerns related to learning innovation"

In this survey, the basis of discussion was how ICT can contribute to a set of key policy objectives, identified by the Stellar Network of Excellence in 2012:

  • Cost reduction and effectiveness of learning
  • Transferability of learning results across lifelong learning sectors and contexts
  • Employability value of Education
  • New assessment methods
  • Scalability of innovation
  • Learning attractiveness.

EUCIS-LLL survey for the European Education, Training and Youth Forum 2013

The 2013 Education, Training and Youth Forum organised by the European Commission, which will take place on 17-18 October in Brussels, will promote the idea of “Working together for Reforms” emphasising the need for policy makers and key stakeholders to work in partnership, in order to foster the successful implementation of reforms at national and regional level, in particular through the opportunities offered by the new “Erasmus+” programme. To prepare an open and rich discussion at the Forum, all stakeholders are called upon to take part in the online consultation set up by EUCIS-LLL and make their voice heard.

FuN - Flexible Education Norway
