NAP Online Community Tools for the Synergy WorkshopThe EDEN NAP Members Area provides the online community for the Synergy Workshop. A dedicated Group is established to support online collaboration for the Workshop's online and offline participants. Workshop participants are invited to use the Discussions thread for general conversations, use the Bookmarking tool to share links to resources of interest or share files directly via the Group files tool. Four Group Pages give frame for collaborative environment to the thematic fora of the Workshop. European Commission's Corner
European Commission launches 'Opening up Education' and reveals the programme's new webportalMore than 60% of nine year olds in the EU are in schools which are still not digitally equipped. The European Commission recently unveiled 'Opening up Education', an action plan to tackle this and other digital problems which are hampering schools and universities from delivering high quality education and the digital skills which 90% of jobs will require by 2020. To help kick-off the initiative, the Commission launched a new website, Open Education Europa, which will allow students, practitioners and educational institutions to share free-to-use open educational resources. |

2014 EU budget: still a long way to goOn 18 September the Commission unveiled a letter modifying its proposal for the 2014 EU financial framework by heading, taking into account the outcome of MFF negotiations and hoping this document to be “the updated basis for a smooth adoption of the 2014 budget”. €130 million (2011 prices) are foreseen to be frontloaded for Erasmus+ next year (and €20 million in 2015) and almost €1,3bn for the Youth Employment Initiative. On 16 October the Commission, Council and Parliament will meet in trialogue configuration to discuss next year’s figures, still subject to sensitive negotiations. |

PIAAC survey: Adult Education, the smart investmentOECD recently released the results of the OECD’s Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). Aimed to collect and analyse data that assist governments in assessing, monitoring and analysing the level, distribution and utilisation of skills among their adult populations, it surveyed 166 000 adults aged 16-65 in 24 countries and regions from August 2011 to March 2012. |

New EUA survey focuses on mapping institutional practices related to e-learningEUA this week launches a new online survey that aims to map capacities for e-learning at European universities and assess their perceptions regarding its general impact on learning and teaching. EUA invites European higher education institutions to take part in this survey, the second half of which is dedicated to the topic of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The survey can be accessed here until 31 October. |

Quality for Innovation in European SchoolsThe second phase of the Q4I project was launched on September the 27th in the frame of the EFQUEL Innovation Forum, in Barcelona. The Q4I model to school quality and innovation was presented and discussed with educational experts, school leaders and other stakeholders. Now the project will engage with 25 schools through pilots in five EU countries (Greece, Italy, Romania, Spain and The Netherlands) to test in real life settings the possibility of combining innovative approaches to school education with quality assurance.
