EDEN and The Open University invite all interested professionals to the 8th EDEN Research Workshop (EDENRW8), to be held in Oxford on 27-28 October 2014 ('zero day' 26 October).

Authors of contributions accepted for presentation can benefit from a reduced fee. See the registration fees online. Special discount for combined Workshop & EDEN Membership fees for 2014-2015 as well as a group rate is available. We offer to young scholars, full time students and PhD students (under 35 years) with a reduced registration fee.

Notification of authors on the results of evaluation will be sent on 15 September.

Xavier Prats Monné – New Director-General of DG Education and Culture

On 1st August, Xavier Prats Monné became the Director-General of DG Education and Culture.

After being Deputy Director-General for EU policies and programmes in the field of education and training, he will now also be responsible for the field of culture, youth and sports, and for the Creative Europe programme. Mr. Prats Monné has accepted the invitation to be keynote speaker at the EDEN 2015 Annual Conference in Barcelona, set to take place on 9-12 June.


New European Parliament Culture and Education (CULT) Committee

During the first weeks of July, Committee member seats were allocated to newly elected MEPs. Read about the new CULT Committee configuration. The first CULT Committee occured on 22 July where the EU budget for 2015 has been discussed.


Public consultation on ‘Science 2.0’: Science in transition

The European Commission's Directorates-General for Research and Innovation (RTD) and Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT) invites you to participate in the public consultation on ‘Science 2.0’: Science in Transition! The consultation will remain open until 30 September 2014.

Piloting of a brand new online business Portuguese language course

The EMPORT Consortium is now recruiting pilot testers for its recently launched Portuguese multimedia course. Read more in the EMPORT newsletter (pdf download, also available in PT).

The EMPORT project is focusing on the improvement of employability and enhancing the competitiveness of companies, by means of language and cultural competences acquisition in Portuguese language and culture.


ProM Final Seminar: Registration Open

The ProM project's Final Seminar (9-10 October 2014 in Sèvres, France) is open to mobility managers at HE and VET institutions, teachers and trainers. Register now to learn about a unique self-assessment tool for mobility and get to know the self-training online platform developed to train individuals involved in mobility management. eLene2learn 6th Newsletter – Final Activities

The eLene2learn project provides a set of practical recommendations to teachers, tutors and learners in the secondary, higher and adult education sectors on the use of ICT and digital media to support the development of learning to learn competencies. After almost 3 years of hard work – including the production of the ‘How to’ guide and an ever-growing collection of case studies – the consortium is now ready to share their lessons learnt. In this last edition of the project newsletter we highlight the final eLene2learn results, achievements and events.


Join the VM-Pass Living Lab

The VM-Pass consortium has set out to get forward-thinking universities and providers of open learning on board for a Living Lab activity. In 2014 – September 2015 it tests and develops tools to make the recognition of open learning and virtual mobility easier within higher education. The Open Discovery Space project offers a series of free webinars on different topics related to the adoption of Open Educational Resources. The next webinar entitled Metadata for Learning Resources will be held on Wednesday 17th September at 17:00 CET. It aims at introducing the basic concepts related to describing educational resources with metadata.

Within the framework of the Workshop on learning outcomes and evaluation methods in e-course, organized by the University Computing Centre SRCE, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia on 26 September 2014, one of the presentations will be focusing on the main challenge of the TALOE project: the importance of linking assessment with the intended learning outcomes. Highlights from EDEN Members and Partners


European Council presidencies trio prioritises validation of non-formal and informal learning

The presidencies trio composed of the current Italian presidency and upcoming Latvian and Luxembourg presidencies of the Council of the EU presented their work programme related to education, training and youth. The three Member States announced to work on a new European agenda for education in the framework of the EU2020 strategy review. The Review will focus on the fight against youth unemployment with a forseen ET2020 joint report of 2015. Read the full programme and EUCIS-LLL latest position on validation.
