Public transport in Oslo

Ruter is the name of the public transport system in Oslo and the surrounding county, Akershus. City buses, regional buses, trams, subway/metro, ferries and local trains are included in Ruter’s ticket system. Tickets can be purchased from any of Ruter’s sales points. Tickets cost NOK 20 more when purchased on board. To travel by subway/metro, you must always pre-purchase a ticket. Here are the information about discounts and special rates.

Oslo has a compact city centre, so to put on some comfortable shoes and walk between the attractions is a good idea.

Oslo pass

We have offered for the conference delegates discounted four-day Oslo pass for € 53 which you could request in course of the online registration (the normal pass for 3 days is NOK 495, corresponding to € 69,3) and will be handed over at the registration desk on site. In case you missed the discounted possibility, you can order the normal pass on the internet.

The Oslo pass gives free admission to more than 30 museums and attractions, free public transport, free parking on municipal parking lots, free entry to outdoor swimming pools, free guided walks and discounts on sightseeing, to Tusenfryd amusement park, car rental, ski simulator, skates and ski rental, as well as good offers in restaurants, shops entertainment and leisure venues.

Taxis

Taxis are expensive. The minimum charge with most companies is at least 80 NOK, increasing to a whopping 160 NOK late at weekend nights. Short central hops cost upwards of 100 NOK, so if public transport still runs, use it.

Several companies compete to have the most incomprehensible price structure. All taxi companies have a starting fee (0-160 NOK) and a fee per kilometer that varies from 14-30 NOK. These fees vary by taxi company and time of day. All taxis accept Visa and Mastercard or cash in NOK (Norwegian kroner).
