Call for Contributions

EDEN intends to bring together differing points of view with a debate approach and speakers who back up their points of view with sound research.

We invite all interested professionals to take part and discover the Workshop Themes by submitting their proposals.

Submissions should make relevant contribution to the field and meet the customary academic requirements: clear aims/questions, methodology, contextualisation, results, conclusions and implications, references.

We invite full text submissions in English (including a one-page summary for the Book of Abstracts in all categories), with careful language, spelling and grammar check.

Submissions that relate to the Workshop Scope and one or more of the Workshop Themes are welcome in the following categories by the deadline: 1 September. You are encouraged to submit your proposal earlier to support a speedy evaluation of the proposals and enhance your possibility to register early in time. Proposals submitted before summer will be evaluated within two weeks.

Contributions received will be continuously evaluated and authors informed accordingly.

Submission Categories

Paper presentations: presenting research results or reviews existing results including empirical or theoretical studies, policy reviews, comprehensive case studies, presentation of project results in their conclusive phase.

Workshops: introducing a comprehensive theme from different perspectives, focused sessions on a particular topic, debates, discussions. Please, note that workshop spaces are limited and extremely competitive.

Posters: work-in-progress, achievements of initial research, projects in early stages of development, case studies, etc. Poster presentations will be themed in a related session.

Selection

Acceptance of submissions is done by double peer-review. Evaluation will be based primarily on originality, significance and quality of contribution, on the proposal?s relevance to the conference themes, further the experience and knowledge of the applicants. However, innovative contributions not fitting into the conference themes will also be considered if they may bring benefit to delegates.

Presentation

Presentation of accepted papers will be organised in an innovative format that takes the shape of ?research-speed-dating?. Presenters will be allocated 6 minutes to present their work and then the audience selects who they would like to hear more from in smaller focussed discussion groups for the remainder of the session.

Publication

Accepted contributions will be published in the online Conference Proceedings with ISBN and their summary in the printed Book of Abstracts.

The selected best papers will be invited to be published in a joint special issue of the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning (EURODL) and Open Learning.

Acknowledgement of Quality and Excellence

The tradition of awarding the EDEN Best Research Paper will be continued. The selection process takes place in collaboration with the Ulrich Bernath Foundation for Research in Open and Distance Learning.

The Open University will announce the Best Poster and Best Session award with the support of the Programme Committee.
