HOW TO REACH THE WORKSHOP VENUE

Oxford by plane
Heathrow is the closest airport (47 miles, about 75 km), Birmingham is the second one (59 miles, about 94 km) from Oxford.
Oxford by coach
National Express, Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach Oxfordshire run the airline services from Heathrow and other airports. Buses from Heathrow to Oxford leave every 30 minutes and takes 90-110 minutes.
In Oxford, Gloucester Green bus station is used mainly by the London, airport buses and coaches. We recommend taking a taxi to reach the Venue or your hotel from the bus station.
Oxford by train
Oxford railway station is half a mile (about 0.8km) west of the city centre and 1.5 miles (about 2.4 km) away from the Venue. The station is served by numerous routes and companies. Trains from Heathrow to London Paddington leave every 15 minutes and takes 20-30 minutes, from London Paddington to Oxford leave an average of twice an hour and takes 1-2 hours.

Getting to the Venue from Oxford Train Station by bus No. 31 or X3 takes about 20 minutes, you have to get off at ?New Hinksey, opp Lake Street? stop, see here the map.
Here is the description how to reach the Venue by car. Parking is free at the hotel for its guests. In central Oxford traffic is heavy, the one-way system is very confusing, the streets are often narrow with restrictions, and parking is expensive.
Public transportation in Oxford
The bus services are mainly provided by Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach Oxfordshire. Other operators include Thames Travel, Arriva and several smaller companies. There is no subway or tram line. Bus timetables
Oxford has both metered taxis which can be flagged down from the street or taken from taxi stands located around the city as well as ‘minicabs’ which must be ordered by phone. Meter taxis are quite expensive but are convenient for short hops if traveling in a big group. Minicabs are much cheaper for long-distance journeys.

EDEN Fellows Walk and Talk
Before the Welcome Reception, on 26 October at 15.30, honouring the Ancient Greeks? peripatetic tradition of learning, a group of EDEN Fellows will walk around in the gardens of the EDENRW8 venue discussing the future of digital education. All delegates are welcome to join.
Meeting point: Lobby of Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel
The Welcome Reception will take place on 26 October at 18.00 in the Sheldonian Theatre. Described as one of the architectural jewels of Oxford, this historical building constructed nearly 350 years ago has many interesting features. The official ceremonial hall of the University of Oxford is situated in the city centre. The EDEN Fellow Award will be presented during the reception.

Getting to the Sheldonian Theatre from the EDENRW8 venue: You have to get on the bus No. 16, get off at ?Oxford City Centre, St Aldates? (fourth) stop, and then walk about 6 minutes (0.3 mi). Total travel time is about 15 minutes, see here the map.
The Gala Dinner on 27 October at 20.30 will be organized in the Cathedral Suite of Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel. The Dinner has an additional charge of ?55/£45 per person. You can book your place by marking your preference via the Online Registration Form or by sending an email to EDENRW8 Secretariat. Payment should be prearranged by bank transfer or credit card. Tickets will be handed over upon registration. We regret that no booking will be possible on site. The EDEN Best Research Paper Award will be presented at the event.

Lunches, tea and coffee are included for all registered participants (indicated by wearing their badge).
Services available at the Venue
In case you are a guest of Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel, you will be able to enjoy complimentary membership of Willows Leisure Club where you will find a comprehensive range of facilities designated to relaxation, health and beauty.
Although there is wireless zone in the Hotel, participants are kindly requested not to try to download large sized files.
Insurance / Liability
Neither the organizer nor the hotel can be held liable for loss, injury or damage to any person or property or for any additional expenditure incurred due to changes, whatever the causes. Participants are advised to make their own arrangements for health and travel insurance.
All participants receive name badges at the registration desk and are kindly asked to wear it for admission to the official scientific and social programme. Thinking green, EDEN aims to collect recyclable materials therefore we would appreciate if the delegates returned their badges to the registration desk before leaving the conference.
