Tony Bates is the author of eleven books in the field of online learning and distance education. He has provided consulting services specializing in training in the planning and management of online learning and distance education, working with over 40 organisations in 25 countries. Tony is a Research Associate with Contact North | Contact Nord, Ontario’s Distance Education & Training Network.
His actual main focus is strategic planning and management of technology for teaching and learning in post-secondary education, also selection and use of technologies for teaching and learning; costs and benefits.
He is trainer of senior administrators in technology management and helped develop certificate and graduate programs in educational technology and distributed learning.
Now semi-retired, he has completed an online open textbook, Teaching in a Digital Age, for teachers and instructors on April 2 2015. (http://opentextbc.ca/teachinginadigitalage/). Tony is also continuing to blog: http://tonybates.ca on online learning, particularly reviews of research publications in the field and commenting on new developments. His specialties are: technology selection; professional development; strategic planning; cost-effectiveness analysis.
