Abstract of the talk

Back into the Future: Emerging trends in educational innovation in higher education, before and after the pandemic

The progressive reopenings of higher education institutions in Europe and North America provides an excellent opportunity to assess how far educational innovations that were already noticeable before the pandemic are now more apparent. The keynote presents first how little empirical evidence we actually have about teaching methods. It then elaborates on four key drivers of innovation, including the pandemic. Finally, it suggests what are the most important innovation trends that are likely to remain after the pandemic and contribute to the ongoing reshaping of teaching and learning in higher education.
