Opening up the education system has been embraced by European Governments and institutions throughout the continent as a main goal of the decade. As I've already mentioned in previous posts this bold challenge is speeding up considerably the transformation in our field as open and digital learning becomes mainstream. A major driver for this development has been the extraordinary and to some extent unexpected impact of MOOCs, or better said open education at (large) scale. As the recent... Read full post

The year of 2014 was undoubtedly a very good and significant one for the open, distance and e-learning community both in Europe and across the world. This was also a very successful and important year for EDEN. As open and digital education provision becomes mainstream across sectors and our professional field experiences a dramatic expansion, EDEN has managed to anticipate this development and adjust to the changing environment in the best way. Our position as Europe's largest association... Read full post

The very high quality of the presentations and discussions held in Oxford this week made the EDENRW8 a tremendous success. In fact, the ongoing transformations taking place in the field of open, distance and digital learning are confronting the research community with a set of new and complex challenges. How we can do our things even better and also how we do better things is clearly the main question we need to respond to as researchers. Tony Bates will be giving a closer look to the... Last Sunday, the 26th October, the EDEN Executive Committee met for the 100th time, in Oxford. Looking at the EC at its very first meeting in Warsaw, in 1991, (picture in left) and in its most recent form, during the EDENRW8 (on the right), you're bound to find quite a few differences. The setting, the style options, the size of the group and even the gender balance are obviously not alike. The topics on the agenda were also... Read full post
