EDEN Newsflash - November, 2004

1. It is our pleasure to announce that the publication "African Local Governments Towards e-Learning for Sustainability" prepared by the EDITOSIA – "Electronic Distance Training on Sustainability in African Local Governments" EU project consortium is now available. EDEN, as partner of the above project received for distribution a limited number of copies (ca. 30) at no charge to its member-institutions (not more than one copy per institution). The content of the publication can be checked at the EDEN’s website: www.eden-online.org/eden.php?menuId=80&contentId=73.

Institutional EDEN members interested in receiving the above publication, should send a message with the subject: "EDITOSIA publication request" to the EDEN Secretariat. Please, note that the settled EDEN 2004 membership fee is a precondition.

2. The streaming video of the keynote speeches presented at the EDEN Third Research Workshop "Supporting the Learner in Distance Education and E-Learning" held in Oldenburg, March 2004, is now available at the password protected NAP members' area: www.eden-online.org/eden.php?menuId=74

We thank for the valuable contribution of the University of Oldenburg in producing the video.

3. From the Fall of 2004 onwards, EDEN member institutions are entitled to nominate up to TEN experts into the Network of Academics and Professionals, instead of the previous four. With this development, we hope to reach a wider professional circle and offer membership services directly to a growing number of colleagues. The EDEN Secretariat is updating in these days the list of NAP nominees, based on the information received from the main contact person at each member institution.

4. We would like to inform you that taken into account the year-by-year increasing involvement of EDEN in European projects, the Executive Committee at their last meeting in September – in addition to the usual recurring review of the list of ongoing projects and submitted new proposals – have discussed the principles and procedures related to EDEN's project participation. In case of a new project invitation, the Association’s involvement is subject of approval by at least two EC members.

EDEN members may be invited to contribute to the tasks assigned for EDEN in projects. Subject of the administrative rules of the given Programme, members could be considered for involvement as subcontractors. Depending on the total value of the subcontracting, tenders may be opened for either a narrower invited circle of experts or the entire NAP community for involvements. This will always be specified according to the extent and nature of the assigned task.

5. You will find on the EDEN homepage an updated list of recently approved European Union projects with the involvement of EDEN. By visiting the continuously developing websites of the projects in their final phase, you will have access to an extensive source of information. Apart from reading the latest news about the projects themselves, this will also give you the possibility to find many relevant resources, links and get further inspiration.
