EDEN Newsflash - September, 2004

1. The Secretariat of the European Distance and E-Learning Network welcomes you in the beginning of the new academic year. We hope to continue the good collaboration for your satisfaction. Any approach or proposal about how to improve our services, co-operation and communication with members is appreciated.

2. Let us start with a good news: like in the previous years, now as well the papers of the latest EDEN conferences, presented at the Third EDEN Research Workshop entitled "Supporting the Learner in Distance Education and E-Learning" and those introduced at the EDEN 2004 Annual Conference "New Challenges and Partnerships in an Enlarged European Union" are now accessible in electronic format for members of EDEN. On the same site you can also find the proceedings of EDEN events organised since 2002, starting with the presentations published in the Workshop Book of the Second Research Workshop held in 2002 with the title "Research and Policy in Open and Distance Learning" in Hildesheim. If you would like to receive information about how to access all these papers, please send a message from your email address as it is registered on the eden-members mailing list, with the subject: 'Proceedings download request' to the EDEN Secretariat addressed to cser@eden-online.org. With any further queries, please don't hesitate to contact the Secretariat.

3. We would like to remind you that as announced in the beginning of the summer, the EDEN Associate Fellow scheme was launched as an expression of acknowledgement of professional merit by the Association to its members. You can find details about the Associate Fellowship on the EDEN web site under the Network of Academics and Professionals pages. Applications are awaited, and the Secretariat is at your disposal if you need any further clarification or support in this matter.

4. The preparation of the EDEN 2005 Annual Conference, to be held in Helsinki, in the world-famous conference centre of Dipoli, at the Helsinki University of Technology, with fabulous architecture, has been started. The focus of the conference will be next year on lifelong learning, adult and vocational education. Please mark the days of 20-23 June 2005 in your calendar - or a few more days, if you wish to join the celebration of the Midsummer Night in Helsinki, in the weekend just after the conference. Further announcements on the conference will follow soon.
