Special Edition - EDEN Newsflash July, 2005- EDEN among Founding Members of the European Foundation For Quality In Elearning

Europe has its Foundation for Quality in e-Learning

After an intense aggregation and consensus building phase, the European Foundation for Quality in eLearning (EFQUEL), supported by the European Commission and by CEDEFOP, the European Agency for the Development of Vocational Training, has been legally established on June, 30th, 2005 in Brussels, gathering some of the most relevant European actors in the field of eLearning. Its headquarter will be established in the CEDEFOP office in Brussels, but other offices at national level are expected to be established.

The 18 EFQUEL founding members are some important European Networks:

EUROPACE, CEDEFOP, EENet-European Experts' Network for Education and Technology, EDEN-European Distance and E-Learning Network, EFMD-European Foundation for Management Development, EIFeL-European Institute for eLearning, EKMA-European Knowledge Media Association, EUN-European Schoolnet, MENON Network.

And national/regional key players like: FIM-NewLearning (DE), University of Granada (ES), International Quality and Environment Services-Q-Plan (GR), ISFOL, (IT), University of Reading (UK), Regione Toscana, AUSL N° 6 Livorno (IT), Swedish Agency for Flexible Learning (SE), Scienter (IT), and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (ES).

The Foundation's mission is to enhance the quality of eLearning in Europe by providing a new services framework for members and support for all stakeholders. The Foundation is built on principles of dialogue and inclusiveness and its main objective is to promote excellence and innovation in a field that has often been characterized by uncertainty the quality of the learning experience proposed by eLearning. As its main activities, EFQUEL will activate the European Quality Forum, run an Observatory on eLearning Quality approaches and Tools, establish the European Quality Mark and organise dedicated workshops and an annual International Conference.Information on the EFQUEL activities is available on the EFQUEL portal managed by the European Schoolnet at www.qualityfoundation.org.
