2. EDEN Annual Conference , 2010

The Annual Conference in Valencia was again a great success with near 400 delegates from 49 countries from all over the world. The event was rich both in content and in collaboration opportunities.

We invite those members who could not join the event, to visit the Keynotes' site for the most interesting contributions of key presenters, and the Conference Blog to see the comments and reflections of the delegates.

3. New President and Executive Committee members

At the Annual General Meeting held on the 10th June in Valencia, Morten Flate Paulsen, Professor of Online Education, Director of Development, The NKI Internet College, NKI Distance Education, Norway has been elected as the new President of EDEN. 4. EDEN Senior Fellows and Fellows in 2010

We are delighted to inform members that during the Annual Conference in Valencia, Senior Fellow Award was granted to:

• Emotional obstacles for e-learning – a user psychological analysis

• A new impetus for European cooperation in Vocational Education and Training to support the Europe 2020 strategy report

• How do Europe’s schools treat minority ethnic youth?
  
  Compulsory education in Europe shows signs of failing sizeable groups of children who are either not receiving primary education, leaving school without learning basic literacy and numeracy skills, or dropping out of secondary school before gaining any of the qualifications needed to get a job. As children from poor families of minority ethnic backgrounds are most at risk of these outcomes, the EDUMIGROM - Ethnic Differences in Education and Diverging Prospects for Urban Youth in an Enlarged Europe project investigates the extent to which ethnic differences in education lead to inequalities in future prospects among different urban youth groups.
  

• Traditional stereotypes remain the biggest challenge for gender equality in education
  A new study, presented by the European Commission, examining how gender inequality in education is addressed in European countries. It shows that gender differences persist in both choice of study and outcomes.
  
  The key findings of the study are:
  
• Gender roles and stereotypes are the main concern
• Gender-sensitive vocational guidance is focused on girls
• Policies on higher education focus mainly on increasing numbers of women in maths, science and technology (MST)

• €urActive Insight:
  Top researchers fear 'radical shift' in EU policy
  "Scientists at Europe's leading research universities have expressed concern over the growing trend towards linking EU funding with pre-defined outcomes. Researchers fear political priorities will curb their scope for creativity and free thinking."
  
• Final EdReNe report, which marks the conclusion of the EdReNe - Educational Repositories Network as an activity co-funded by the European Commission. By May 1st 2010, EdReNe became a network, where members join because they are interested in a continuing sharing of experiences on educational repositories.
