EDEN Annual Conference - 2011, Dublin

In the 20th Anniversary Year of EDEN, the Annual Conference will take place in Dublin, 19-22 June at the University College of Dublin.

The New Ecosystem of Innovation and Knowledge

The response to the Call, with over 200 papers submitted from all of Europe and other continents was overwhelming, and with the outstanding keynotes and the high number of valuable contributions, we have the makings of a very successful conference.

The Conference Dinner on 21 June, with entertainment, will be organised in the famous Guiness Storehouse, designed in the shape of a giant pint of Guiness. The evening includes a guided visit at the end of which, on reaching the head of the pint, the Gravity Bar, you can enjoy the unique spectacular view across Dublin.

The Annual General Meeting will take place in the evening of Monday, 20 June. The official invitation with supporting documents will be sent to members in due time.

2. 2011 Election of Steering Committee of the Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP)

Following the recent election for the Steering Committee of the Network of Academics and Professionals, the ballot was counted on 15 April 2011. We would like to thank all the people who participated in the election by sending their votes.

We are pleased to inform that the following NAP members have been voted to join the Steering Committee (in alphabetic order):

4. eurodl

New Deadline for EURODL Special Issue Call

The EURODL Special Themed Issue on Creativity and Open Educational Resources (OER) deadline for proposal submission has been changed. Due to colliding deadlines with other relevant publications and conferences, the decision was made to postpone the deadline to 2nd May 2011.

5. EU Lifelong Learning Programme Call for proposals

  • Raising national awareness of lifelong learning strategies and of European cooperation in education and training
  • Support for transnational cooperation in the development and implementation of national and regional lifelong learning strategies

    Deadline 30 June 2011.
  • 6. News about EU projects with EDEN involvement

    Webinar Wednesdays
    te@ch .us and SEVAQ+projects

    In the frame of the teach.us project's Webinar Wednesdays series, the next session is on 20 April, with the theme of Overcoming obstacles. This webinar is organised with the SEVAQ+ project.

    From 17:00 – 18:00 CET, the teach.us project will be discussing the theme from the point of view of “How to get the best out of Web 2.0 in the classroom in education”, what are the obstacles to use Web 2.0 in teaching and how can they be overcome. The host and the presenter of the webinar will be Joe Cullen and Veronique Maes Bizz from the Arcola Research.

    At 18:00 CET, SEVAQ+ will take over to look at overcoming obstacles and resistance to self-evaluation of quality.

    You can join both, or just one, it’s up to you!

    Inclusive Higher Education! – European Competition for Equity
    EquNet Competition 2011

    The EquNet campaign aims to provide a platform for people to express their views and their activities regarding the equity issues in the European higher education system and to raise attention of the society with ensuring high visibility for the best works. The theme is ensuring and improving access to higher education in the widest sense for socially, geographically, physically or otherwise hindered or disabled people, encouraging their involvement and motivating those who may help them.

    Deadline for submissions: 10 May 2011. More information can be found on the EquNet web-site.

    Smart e-Learning Russia Forum on 8-9 June in Moscow

    International Education Forum "Smart e-Learning Russia 2011" is one of the major annual conferences on e-learning and education in Russia. More than 200 specialists from different regions of Russia and abroad take part in two-days event. During the conference days you can attend different plenary sessions, workshops and seminars.     VIRQUAL webinars

    VIRQUAL is an innovative European Project led by University of Porto, about virtual mobility, e-learning and recognition of prior learning at Higher Education and Continuing Education Levels.

    The first webinar is about Virtual Mobility Implementation and will take place on the 27 of April at 11h-12h CET using an online Adobe Connect Meeting Room from University of Geneva to run the events. The invited speaker is George Ubachs, the Managing Director of EADTU (the European Association for Distance Teaching Universities) and the moderator is António Teixeira from Universidade Aberta in Portugal.

    Boise State University

    3D GameLab is an online, quest-based platform that launches in closed beta this August with a three week, fully online summer camp for educators who want to engage in and design quest-based learning tied to curriculum standards. This year's camp is just for teachers, faculty and Instructional designers, and hosted by the Department of Educational Technology at Boise State University. All synchronous events will occur online in environments such as Skype, Adobe Connect, Twitter, Second Life, World of Warcraft, and more.

    8. Interesting Readings and Events

    • 27 major stakeholders in education and training adopted a common position paper
      on their vision for the future of education, training and youth programmes:
      Entitled “Investing in People through Sustainable and Inclusive EU Programmes” the position paper proposes 4 key principles on the vision for the future programmes as well as 4 steps towards more effective programmes including an annex with recommendations for the next financial regulation.

    • European Commission - Education and Culture DG: Towards the EIT Strategic Innovation Agenda - Open public cunsultation on the future strategy for the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)
      The consultation is open until 30 June 2011. The questionnaire can be consulted via here
    • The European Commission would like to invite you to participate in a short survey on the most effective ways to increase awareness of and participation in adult learning. The objective of this exercise is to explore possibilities of how to make adult learning at all ages more popular, and identify strategies to promote the role of adult learning.
      The consultation can be accessed via this link and will be closed on 22 April 2011.
    • KP-Lab focuses on creating a learning system aimed at facilitating innovative practices of sharing, creating and working with knowledge in education and workplaces. The product-oriented site with the KP-Lab project outcomes is available at www.knowledgepractices.info with content targeted for 4 different target groups: Teachers, Students, Business and Researchers.
      The site informs about the Trialogical Approach to learning which aims to be a specific approach to knowledge creation. Trialogical theory provides useful tools and hints on how to learn in groups with peers producing reusable artefacts and on how to invite and involve students in doing so.
