EDEN Annual Conference - 2011, Dublin

Registration Open!

In the 20th Anniversary Year of EDEN, the Annual Conference will take place in Dublin, 19-22 June at the University College of Dublin.

2. Election of EDEN NAP Steering Committee 2011

Nominations invited by 7 March

The Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP), which has in January 2011 near 1100 members, is co-ordinated by a Steering Committee, elected by a ballot of its members.

The Chair of the NAP Steering Committee, is ‘ex officio’member of the EDEN Executive Committee.

The present Steering Committee was elected in March 2008 for a three-year period of time. The term of office of the present NAP Steering Committee will be terminated in April 2011, the Steering Committee is subject of election which shall take place by electronic voting.

All NAP members are invited to take part in the nominations and the election.

Timetable:

Nominations called: 21 January 2011
Deadline for sending nominations: 7 March 2011
Ballot opens: 10 March 2011
Ballot closes: 15 April 2011
Announcement of the results: 20 April 2011

Special Issue of the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-learning (EURODL):
Fostering Creativity - The Use of Open Educational Resources

The Chief Editor, Alan Tait, Professor Elsebeth Korsgaard Sorensen and Professor Grainne Conole, as guest editors are awaiting your submissions on the notion of creativity in the context of Open Educational Resources. Inclusive Higher Education! - European Competition for Equity
EquNet Competition for Equity

Would you like to show how you imagine Equity in higher education?
Would you like to be part of a European-wide awareness raising campaign?

We invite you to take part in the EquNet campaign that aims to provide a platform for people to express their views and their activities regarding the equity issues in the European higher education system and to raise attention of the society with ensuring high visibility for the best works.

Works are awaited in both visual/audio-visual category and writings category until 10 May 2011.

Learning 2.0 for an Inclusive Society - Collection and analysis of local initiatives online

Links-up is research project about how ‘Web 2.0’technologies –e.g. social networking software –are changing the face of education and training for disadvantaged people. The project website shares Experiences from the real world. They tell us about what works and what doesn’t work. The observations made based on the experiences distinguish the general trend from the particular and local circumstances. Take a look at the website and share your experiences by registering and adding your good or bad practices on the field. The e-library of the project offers the first study on in-depth case studies of innovative examples of the use of Learning 2.0 and Web 2.0 for inclusive lifelong learning.

5. Highlights from EDEN Members and Partners

EFMD - European Foundation for Management Development

The EFMD Annual Conference 2011 is organised in Brussels 5-7 June 2011 under the theme „Business Education in 2025”. The Conference will be combined with the 2011 PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) Summit which will take place at the same venue on 7-8 June 2011 and will focus on “Partnership in Responsibility: Embedding PRME in Support of the Corporation for the 21st Century”.

The EFMD Excellence in Practice Award attracts case studies describing an effective and impactful Learning and Development (L&D) partnership. The specific field of the Learning and Development intervention might be Leadership, Professional, Talent or Organization Development. The programme described in the case is deployed by an organisation either together with its in-house L&D unit or with an external L&D provider (Business School, Exec Education Center, etc...).

In case you are interested in participating, please consult the detailed assignment brief and submission guidelines. Deadline for the submission of cases for the 2011 Award: 1st May 2011.
This competition is open to EFMD members and also non-members.

The Turin Learning Link

The Turin Learning Link is an event created to be a meeting place for capacity development policy makers and practitioners. The goal is to explore existing knowledge within the extended community of practice while fortifying the culture of cooperation among development training and learning institutes (DTLIs).

The call is addressed to all organizations that are willing to share their knowledge and experiences in a participatory learning setting from April 11-15 at the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin, Italy.

AVU Launches an Interactive OER Portal

The African Virtual University (AVU) has launched its Open Education Resources (OER) interactive portal. The portal OER@AVU is available in 3 languages: English, French and Portuguese. The portal is expected to host some 219 commissioned AVU courses in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Teacher Education Professional Courses, and ICT in Education.

  • Consultation: Green Paper on a Common Strategic Framework for future EU Research and Innovation Funding
  • In connection with the Safer Internet Day1 on 8 February 2011, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, presents a selection of statistics concerning internet security. The main results can be read in the Eurostat news release.
  • MEDEA AWARDS 2011 website is now open
    Deadline for submitting entries is 16 September 2011
  • Supporting policies create increased impact for OER. The Open Educational Quality Initiative "Beyond OER" study report is published. For more information about the initiative, visit the Open Educational Quality website.
