and promoting access to education and
training: the role of distance education
and e-learning in technology-enhanced
environments.
We are pleased to report that the Fifth EDEN Research Workshop in Paris has resulted a memorable success with the participation of over 180 delegates from 37 countries.
The keynotes and several more interesting sessions have been recorded by Universite Louis Pasteur, ULP Multimedia Strasbourg, and can be watched on www.canalc2.tv
5. 7th Framework Programme's ICT Call
The European Commission's 7th Framework Programme (FP7) was launched at the end of 2006 and by the end of its first year the programme had already launched a number of calls for proposals. Its ICT theme funds collaborative research and technological development projects. After the successful finalisation of FET (Future and Emerging Technologies) Open, Joint Security and ICT 1, 2 and 3 projects the programme continues to fund selected new initiatives.
ICT
Calls 4, 5 and 6 will be based upon the 2009-2010 Work
Programme which are expected to be formally published
in November 2008.
Calls are expected at six month
intervals,
with an even spread of budget between them. A straightforward
Work Programme definition process could enable a
first call in November 2008, with succeeding calls
in June,
and December 09. Each call is expected to have a
budget of around €500 - €700 million Euro. For further

6. Educational Repositories Network Workshop 5.2 on Engaging users and producers
The EdReNe thematic network invites members and interested stakeholders to the EdReNe expert workshop on Engagement of producers and users, operational level. Venue: Husseren les Châteaux, Alsace - France.

7. EDEN Open Classroom Working Group - New Co-Chair
At the meeting of the EDEN Executive Committe on 22 October in Paris, Professor Andrea Kárpáti, Head of MULTIPED Centre for Multimedia and Educational Technology at Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest was assigned as Co-Chair of the Open Classroom Working Group, supporting the lond-standing chair, Nikitas Kastis.
At the Executive meeting, Antonio Teixera, Vice-Rector of the Universidade Aberta, Lisbon, reported on the preparations of the Open Classroom Conference to be organised in October 2009 in Oporto, Portugal.
8. Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) - Call for proposals 2009
The
priority of the Lifelong Learning Programme - funding
projects between 2007 and
2013 - is to reinforce the contribution made by education
and training to achieving the "Lisbon goals" of
the EU. After 2 rounds of applications the current call
for proposals (DG EAC/31/08) is posted on the European
Commission's web site
9. Teaching and learning with multi-user virtual environments (MUVEs) - the MUVEnation programme is now open for participation
From the MENON Network:
The European funded MUVEnation project is now launching 'Teaching and learning with MUVEs. This is a one year postgraduate programme, delivered online, for future and in-service teachers who want to use innovative methods and tools to address learners motivation and participation issues in compulsory education.
The programme will be taking place in Italy, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Belgium and France. If you are interested in particpating then please download the registration form, fill in and send it to your local organiser by 15 October 2008. If you are not based in one of these countries please contact the European programme organiser.
10. Call for papers from the eLearning Papers
The eLearning Papers has launched a call for papers on digital literacy. The article submission closes on 10 November 2008. The full description of the call and the submission guidelines are available at the publication's website.

11. Developing SCORM 2.0
The International Federation for Learning-Education-Training Systems Interoperability (LETSI) has taken on the task of developing the next generation of SCORM, the Sharable Content Object Reference Model.
As part of this initiative, LETSI was soliciting White Papers and comments. They received 99 white papers from all over the world on topics that range from SCORM’s content aggregation scheme to the use of games, simulations and other immersive learning environments.
Over the last two months, the submissions generated dozens of discussion threads on the wiki. The Program Committee will be facilitating these discussions and prepare the agenda for the SCORM 2.0 Workshop on Pensacola, USA, October 15-17.
