EDEN Conference News





Registration is now open!

The EDEN Secretariat is taking care of the registration for the Annual Conference. The registration fee includes access to all conference facilities, the electronic Conference Proceedings, the Welcome Cocktail, lunches and refreshments during the conference days. The fee does not include accommodation and the conference dinner (optional, indicative price 80 EUR).


Late submissions still welcome!

There has been an impressive response to the Call, showing high level compliance with the theme and concept. The relevance and diversity of submissions is reassuring for a conference rich in content and in networking opportunities.

Due to numerous extension requests received, the online submission will remain open until further notice. Submissions that relate to the Conference Scope and one or more of the Conference Themes are still welcome in paper, poster, workshop, training, demonstration and synergy formats.

Pre-conference workshops

Digital Transformation And Diversity In A Swedish Context

This pre-conference workshop will be on 13 June, at 12:00-16:00 CET, hosted by SADE, the Swedish Association for Open and Distance Learning, and will be free of charge.

EDEN Special Interest Group (SIG) on TEL and quality enhancement

This pre-conference workshop will also be launched on 13 June, at 16:30-17:00 CET. It will introduce and present EDEN's SIG on TEL and Quality Enhancement:state of the art in research and practices, current challenges and challenges ahead. The SIG will present the aims of the group and will invite EDEN NAP members to join the group through discussions in NAP area and other EDEN channels.

It will be followed by a series of EDEN SIG on TEL and quality enhancement wokshops/learning cafes, which will take place during the EDEN 2017 Annual Conference.

Community Update

25 Years of EDEN

Antonio Teixeira, leaving EDEN President in 2016 worked with a special collection of invited posts to his President's Blog from the key personalities of EDEN in the last decades. The result is an exceptional collection of essays from the founding members, past-Presidents, senior officers and think-tanks of the Asssociation. The short papers have been published in a booklet and sent in the Anniversary Year to all EDEN members. It is now available online as well at the EDEN website.


#EDENChat:Silent learners in online courses

Some learners are more active than others. Some enjoy group work but others avoid it if at all possible. Some prefer to listen, observe, reflect and learn without needing to actively participate.

Active participation is expected and rewarded today but do active participants learn more than silent learners? Should we try to encourage everyone to be active or can we accept diversity and find ways of including the silent learners in the course?

Election of EDEN NAP Steering Committee 2017

The Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP), which in December 2016 has 1053 members, is co-ordinated by a Steering Committee, elected by a ballot of its members. The term of office of the present NAP Steering Committee will be terminated in April 2017, the Steering Committee is subject of election which shall take place by electronic voting. All NAP members are invited to take part in the nominations and the election.

ICDE announces new Board of Trustees

EDEN Past-President Morten F. Paulsen has been elected as member of the new ICDE Board of Trustees. EDEN congratulates him on this high level assignment! Morten was Executive Committee Member, Vice-President and finally President of EDEN between 2010 - 2013.


Open Education Week- "2017 Open Education:The Moral, Business &Policy Case for OER"webinar

For the first day of Open Education Week (27-31 March 2017), on 27 March at 16:00 EDEN will be hosting a webinar with Cable Green:"2017 Open Education:The Moral, Business &Policy Case for OER". Cable Green, Director of Open Education at Creative Commons, will provide an overview of open licensing and OER, and discuss specific examples where institutions, governments and foundations have moved the default on funding, praxis and culture from “closed”to “open.”

Skills Profile Tool for Third Country Nationals

As part of the New Skills Agenda for Europe DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion has developed a Skills Profile Tool to support early profiling of the skills of refugees, migrants and other third country nationals. The tool is intended for use by any services that may be offering assistance services to third country nationals and should be used by an adviser/administrator/counsellor etc in an interview situation with a third country national to get to know the individual, their skills and experiences. To support the collection of feedback a DEMO and a Survey is available for testing and offering any feedback on the tool. They survey is available until 3 March 2017.

A story of 30 years:from Erasmus to Erasmus+

2017 marks 30 years of Erasmus+. The original Erasmus programme began in 1987 as an exchange programme giving higher education students a taste of life and learning abroad. You can read more about the anniversary on the European Commission’s dedicated Erasmus+ 30 website.

Recognition of Valid and Open Learning

The now published short questionnaire about user authentication, learners identity and recognition of learning path is part of the ReOPEN project which aims at creating instruments to develop validated Open Online Learning for recognition of prior and non-formal learning in formal curriculum, targeting vocational, adult learning and teacher training institutions, companies and universities.

MOOC on open badges running January –July 2017 –Join in!

Open Badges are growing rapidly. There are deep implications of this new technology and movement in policy, employment, informal learning and higher education. The three free sessions of the MOOC created by the Open Badge Network project will guide you through the different aspects of employment, policy and education.
The MOOC is running between January - July 2017. Participants can still JOIN IN!


Improving Soft Skills for Better Employability - eLene4work event 19-20 May 2017, Nancy, France

Soft skills such as communication, teamwork, creativity and entrepreneurship are more and more in demand in today’s labour market.
The eLene4work European project was tackling the definition of these soft skills, including digital soft skills, and proposed and tested a series of actions and practical tools to help young talents better understand the expectations of employers.
19-20 May 2017 in Nancy the partnership will share the results and experiences of the project and invite participants to discuss and share their view in relation with the development of soft skills. Read more...
