EDEN Conference News




Registration is open

The EDEN Secretariat is taking care of the registration for the Annual Conference. The registration fee includes access to all conference facilities, the electronic Conference Proceedings, the Welcome Cocktail, lunches and refreshments during the conference days. The fee does not include accommodation and the conference dinner.


Detailed conference programme available

The Conference programme includes plenaries, parallel sessions with paper presentations, workshops, trainings, moderated poster and demo sessions and the synergy strand, ensuring digital interactivity and cooperation on the social web.

The event starts on Tuesday afternoon on 13 June, with registration, followed by the Welcome Reception and ends with a Farewell Coffee on 16 June.

Synergy sessions - envision your research and project plans with the expert community

"Synergy" – a unique feature of the EDEN conferences incorporating interactive, network building sessions always offers outstandingly rich portfolio of projects and initiatives will feature again in Jönköping.

Critical thinking, online higher education observatory, digital democracy, open badges, mobile apps for self-regulated learning, e-schools, decision making at universities, MOOCs for the business world - some of the themes which will be steering these sessions, dedicated to interactive knowledge sharing, networking to inspire project ideas and partnerships, to support sustainability of projects.

Digital Transformation And Diversity In A Swedish Context

  • Digital transformation and diversity in a Swedish context, and about SADE

  • Technology enhanced learning to support inclusion and integration of migrants
  • Mobile language learning applications for integration of Arabic speaking migrants in Sweden

Special Interest Group on TEL and Quality Enhancement

The first part of these workshop sessions - or learning cafés - will also be held on 13 June as a free pre-conference workshop. It will introduce and present EDEN's Special Interest Group (SIG) on Technology Enabled Learning (TEL), and Quality Enhancement.

The series includes the following workshops:

  • Renewing the Quality Agenda - 14 June
  • Quality In TEL On Micro, Meso And Macro Level, And Who Are The Stakeholders. Why And How Do They Have An Interest? - 15 June
  • Innovation for Quality Leadership - 16 June

New plenary speaker joins the conference

Willem van Valkenburg

Manager of Production and Delivery at TU Delft Extension School, Member of the Board of Directors of the Open Education Consortium

He is part of the leadership of the TU Delft Extension School. He is responsible for the production and delivery of OpenCourseWare, DelftX MOOCs, online Professional Education and online BSc and MSc programmes. He will be giving a Report on the "Year of Open" at the closing plenary session. Learn more about him here.

EDEN Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP) Steering Committee Chair elected

EDEN is pleased to announce that at their online meeting, the newly elected NAP Steering Committee unanimously voted for Antonella Poce (Associate Professor in Experimental Pedagogy at the University Roma Tre) as Chair of the Committee.

We congratulate Antonella and wish her success in this new, important role!

The President of ARCASIA – the Architects Regional Council, Asia, Professor Jahangir Khan visited the EDEN Secretariat office at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and discussed the international co-operation opportunities in ICT enhanced learning with Andras Szucs, Secretary General.

24 May, Paris: Visionary Leadership Forum for Digital Transformation

We invite leaders in higher education to register your interest for attending a one day Leadership Forum.

The event is hosted by UNESCO, and co-organized with D-TRANSFORM project and ICDE, who together take the initiative to mobilise globally for visionary leadership for the digital transformation of higher education.

Having the Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Education 2030: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” as a backdrop, the event shall set the agenda for how leaders can initiate and develop actions to transform higher education through digital supported learning and teaching. SAVE THE DATE! tMAIL final seminar in Athens, 20th October 2017

The tMAIL - Teacher Mobile Application for Innovative Learning project is inviting you to its final conference that will be held in Athens on the 20th October 2017, as a pre-event of the 2017 EDEN Open Classroom Conference hosted by the Ellinogermaniki Agogi. This free of charge event will give participating teachers a chance to familiarise themselves with Self Regulated Learning (SRL), have hands-on experience with an SRL teaching application and will receive practical recommendations for integrating teaching of SRL in their classroom activities.


Improving Soft Skills for Better Employability - eLene4work event 19-20 May 2017, Nancy, France

Soft skills such as communication, teamwork, creativity and entrepreneurship are more and more in demand in today’s labour market.

The eLene4work European project was tackling the definition of these soft skills, including digital soft skills, and proposed and tested a series of actions and practical tools to help young talents better understand the expectations of employers, to assess their own level of competency and to further develop these skills through open education initiatives such as MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and OERs (Open Educational Resources).

At the project closing event the partnership would like to share the results and experiences of the project and invite participants to discuss and share their view in relation to the development of soft skills. The conference has a joint session on Saturday morning with the leadership school of the D-transform project. Register to the conference!


Invitation to the Open Badges MOOC, Session 3

After the successful run of the first two sessions of the Open Badges MOOC: Session 1: Employers’ engagement with Open Badges and Session 2: Policy and Open Badges, the Open Badge Network project would now like to invite all to participate in the third, last session: Session 3: Open Badges in Higher Education, running between 15 May 2017 – 09 July 2017. During the 8 weeks of this MOOC session we will discuss a range of key issues around Open Badges in Higher Education, including use cases, quality assurance, alignment with competency frameworks and policies on higher and open education in Europe and beyond.

Developing e-Learning in the Transcaucasus region

The ARMAZEG project aims to stimulate educational reform in Armenian and Georgian universities by developing lifelong learning methodologies, implementation strategy, teacher training and setting up of e-learning centres.

Highlights in the present newsletter include reports on staff development for the setting up of e-learning centres and piloting in several universities.
