Open Educational Resources and OER repositories

We began our collaboration exercise in the theme of "Open Educational Resources and OER repositories" before the Synergy Workshop, and aim to continue elaborating on our working documents after the conference.

During the discussion the participants clarified what OER means to them and what alternative deifinitions exist for the term. They shared their experiences, desires and fears. Having come from so very different backgrounds both geographically and in terms of educational sectors and positions, it took most of the 90 minutes to explore the areas where future collaborations could be developped. The more precise domains of collaboration that should be further investigated for practical synergies have been listed on a mindmap.

Specific suggestions / recommendations have also been phrased during the WG discusssions, namely:

  • Laia Canals offered joint workshops and consultations with Open Education Europa
  • Some participants expressed the need that the Commission should ensure sharing of EU funded projects' public delierables (and make the easily identifiable) - open resources.
  • Close collaboration should be developped between repositories - ODS is a harvester of content, merging/combining repositories. Content providers are advised to make their content searchable.
  • Projects such as VM-PASS and LangOER are organizing awareness raising seminars and are looking for providers and piloters of (new) OER content.
  • Sustain, update/upgrade existing materials.
  • Reward not only the creation and sharing of new materials, but also re-use.
  • Compose a position paper, working out a collaboration writing exercise.
  • Organise a follow-up webinar / face-to-face meeting focusing on partnerships after the publishing of the Erasmus+ call.

You are invited to post your thoughts and/or resources here in the EDEN 2013 Synergy Workshop group of the NAP Members Area as well as on the conference's virtual post-it wall on Lino: you can publish small (Post-it-like) stickers, such as links to resources, videos from YouTube, images and small notes/comments related to your projects and/or the Synergy Workshop themes. Linoit is an ICT tool we will be using during the conference days. We highly recommend you to join our group, although your registration is only optional.

Please, indicate what you, your institution and/or project can OFFER and what you would NEED (1 suggestion / post-it) within the theme, selecting one of the following 4 categories:

  1. joint event (when and where)
  2. reciprocal piloting/peer review (what, when, how)
  3. community sustainability (where and who)
  4. new partnership (aims and objectives)

Your post-its should bear your name and contact and any further information you find necessary for fellow participants to understand your suggestions.

If you feel uncomfortable using, please click here to access the Google Doc.

The WG3 collaboration will continue online and at future webinars and face to face events.
