1. EDEN Annual Conference - 9-12 June, 2010

MEDIA INSPIRATIONS FOR LEARNING
What Makes the Impact?

The 2010 Annual Conference, addressing the issue of social media culture, new organic learning environments and how these environments can be turned into instrumental knowledge, will take place in Valencia, Spain.

Confirmed keynote speakers are:

  • Martine Bean, Vice-Chancellor, The Open University, United Kingdom
  • George Siemens, Learning Technologies Centre, University of Manitoba, Canada
  • Andy di Paolo, Executive Director, Stanford Center for Professional Development, Senior Associate Dean, School of Engineering Stanford University

Venue of the event will be Universidad Politecnica de Valencia.

The Call for Papers is open and waiting for your contributions online. Submission deadline is 29 January, 2010.

Proposals both in English and Spanish are welcome!

2. EDEN Seventh Open Classroom Conference

The papers presented at the Open Classroom Conference, held in Porto, Portugal "The European School 2.0" are now accessible in electronic format for members of EDEN. Please, kindly note that the articles appear in non-edited format, as submitted by the authors for the event.

4. New posts on the President's blog

Though we trust, you are regular reader of the President's blog, let us draw your attention to the recently uploaded posts.

Martine Vidal, Vice-President wrote about her visit in China and attending the conference organised by the Central Radio and Television University on the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary, whilst Alan Tait, President of EDEN posted his impressions during visits in Romania and China, emphasising the importance of building and renewing the skills and competences of people in the workplace that face us all across Europe.

6. 2010 EU Lifelong Learning Programme Calls

Various deadlines of the EU Lifelong Learning Programme calls are approaching.

Let us kindly remind that EDEN is offering its experience and expertise in projects in the fields of e-learning, open, distance education and adult learning. Our contributions in EU funded projects in the past years included efficient, well designed „service packages”in the fields of dissemination, communication, valorisation of project achievements, further in networking, evaluation, quality development, observatory, and knowledge base building.

The current call for proposals (EAC/41/09) is posted on the European Commission's web site.

7. News from EDEN member organisations and partners

Consultation document on EU 2020

The consultation document on EU 2020, the successor to Lisbon strategy has been published and an invitation to the public consultation is released. The document was adopted on 24 November 2009. The Commission is seeking comments, by 15 January 2010, on the proposals and priorities which are put forward in the consultation document.

USDLA - 2009-2010 President elected

The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) recently elected Reggie Smith III as President of the Association. With this ascendency to the Presidency of USDLA, Reggie Smith becomes the first African-American member to assume this vaulted position. "Reggie brings knowledge and a level of acumen that will assist the association in its continued efforts to promote the development and application of distance learning," said Dr. John G. Flores, USDLA Executive Director.

EDEN congratulated Reggie and hopes the continuation of the excellent collaboration between the two organisations.

VIRQUAL - Virtual Mobility and European Qualification Framework

EDEN member, University of Porto, being partner in the Virqual project is kindly drawing your attention to the project that is running in a form of network that proposes to help educational and training institutions to achieve Virtual Mobility and to guarantee EQF implementation through e-learning, aiming at finding specific obstacles in institutions and proposing concrete and innovative solutions.

Manifesto for Creativity and Innovation in Europe

"Manifesto for Creativity and Innovation in Europe" is one of the key outcomes of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009. The document is the result of a collective work of the Ambassadors of the Year, who are leading European personalities from the fields of culture, science, business, education and design. With its 'Seven Commandments', the Manifesto will help shape the EU's strategy for promoting creativity and innovation for the next decade.

European Interest Group on Creativity and Innovation - EICI

To be kept informed about ongoing activities concerning the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 and to learn about each partner's efforts in order to support creative entepreneurs and innovation stakeholders in their respective regions and cities reaching their full potential, you are kindly invited to read the October Newsletter of EICI.

The European Learning Industry Group, at their workshop on 2 December in frames of Online Educa, will bring together key stakeholders to outline the NEXT PRACTICES moving towards a learning society: Policy makers, corporate learning officers, learning industry experts and representatives from the education world. The outcome of this intensive session with initial keynotes, roundtables and a final panel discussion will be the foundation for a manifesto to be published following Online Educa Berlin – to help trace the way to the future.

MEDEA Awards 2009

The MEDEA Awards Organising Committee announced the 8 MEDEA Finalists. To find out who they are, read the online Press Release.
